The number 15 in Spanish begins with the letter q and it's not so easy to remember:

The translation of the number fifteen from English to Spanish is quince

The number 'quince' sounds very different when it's said in Spanish to how beginners may imagine it would sound. The letters of the alphabet are very different to English so it's important to teach children and beginners the sounds of the letters so that they can understand how to say the number 15 in Spanish properly.

15 is the cardinal or counting number because it denotes quantity.  The ordinal number for 15 in English is written as 15th or fifteenth. It's different in Spanish as the ordinal numbers are hardly used beyond 10th. It's replaced by the cardinal number instead. The ordinal number of 15 is:

The number 15 translates to quince which is an important vocabulary word to know as it is used for in many situations including telling the time. As in English, quarter is also used when referring to time. Quarter in Spanish is cuarto. The letters are pronounced differently to English and these examples will help you correctly pronounce quince:

  • the combination of the letters qu are pronounced like the letter k in keen
  • the letter i is pronounced similar to ee in seed
  • the letter n sounds like the letter n in know
  • the letter c, when it falls before vowel letters e or i is pronounced differently in certain Spanish speaking countries and regions such as  the Canary Islands and LA where the letter c is pronounced as letter s. In most regions it is pronounced th like the sound of th in the word then.
